12 Month Duration - Hydro plant - Lead Mechanical Engineer
A significant engineering project is underway for 2025, involving the full refurbishment of a major hydroelectric unit. This effort focuses on replacing critical turbine components that have experienced fatigue-related damage. The work will require a complete disassembly of the unit, the removal and repair or replacement of key parts, and a comprehensive reassembly process. Once complete, the unit will be recommissioned and returned to full operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all project activities comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- Manage main mechanical contracts and other assigned scopes.
- Collaborate with specialist teams to deliver overhauls aligned with protocols.
- Support inspection and testing plans for mechanical components.
- Supervise contractors, manage quality standards, and perform audits.
- Report progress, attend project meetings, and assist with cost control.
- Develop technical specifications for mechanical work and participate in procurement.
- Oversee mechanical plant modifications, ensuring procedures and drawings are updated.
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and workshop visits as required.
- Create detailed mechanical close-out reports.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in planning major power station overhauls, including logistics, procurement, and contractor management.
- Strong team collaboration, communication, and report-writing skills.
- Proficiency with computer systems and a flexible approach to tasks.
Desirable:
- Experience with hydro power plant overhauls.
- Engineer-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with power plant mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, and valves.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards.
Safety Requirements:
- Full compliance with health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE.
- Up-to-date SafePass and manual handling training.
